International Boxing Federation
The International Boxing Federation (IBF ) is a boxing federation, which organizes official fights and gives the IBF world champion in professional boxing. It belongs next to the World Boxing Association (WBA ), the World Boxing Organization ( WBO) and World Boxing Council (WBC ) of the four largest associations in professional boxing.
The IBF comes from the USBA (United States Boxing Association ), a regional championship organization. 1983, during an annual meeting in Puerto Rico, USBA president Bob Lee was defeated in the election for president of the WBA against Gilberto Mendoza. Lee and others withdrew after the meeting and decided to create a new organization that operates worldwide. First was the association IBF - USBA.
