International Canoe Federation

The International Canoe Federation ( International Canoe Federation, ICF) is the umbrella organization of the national canoe organizations worldwide. The ICF is a member of the International Olympic Committee, the GAISF and IWGA and upholds the interests of canoeing.

History

On January 19, 1924 founded canoeing associations from Germany, Denmark, Austria and Sweden, the International Representatives shaft Canoeing ( IRK ), headquartered in Munich and the German Franz Reinicke as president.

1946, the International Canoe Federation (ICF ) was founded as a successor organization in Stockholm. At that time consisted of the German Canoe Federation, which had risen in 1934 as part of the DC circuit in the German Reich Federation for Physical Education, no. It was not until 1952, the 1949 founded German Canoe Association ( DKV) together with the German Canoeing Association of the GDR ( DKSV ) was added.

Member organizations

In 2007, the ICF 146 national member organizations. The largest of these is the DKV with 113,000 members.

Organization

Every two years there is an ICF Congress, carried out at the elections and important decisions are made. The last Congress was held in Hong Kong in January 2007. Each national association is doing ( regardless of size ) one vote.

The seat of the ICF is located since 2006 in Lausanne.

As an umbrella organization, it organizes world championships in eight canoeing disciplines. Unlike their national and continental member organizations, the ICF does not care about sports canoe routes and other non - competitive sports oriented.

President of the ICF is since 2008 the Spaniard José Perurena López, General Secretary of the Briton Simon Toulson. In the Olympic Games program, the ICF is responsible for the competitions in canoe racing and canoe slalom, in the program of the World Games for the program sport canoe polo as well as the invitation dragon boat sport.
