International Videofestival Bochum

The International Video Festival of Bochum was first founded in the circles of the student body for theater, film and television studies in the winter semester 1990/91 at the Ruhr- University Bochum as " Bochum Video Festival ".

Every year it attracts artists, video fans and the curious in arts into the center of the Ruhr- University Bochum and has established itself as a solid platform of video art. In a colorful program can find videos of all genres space; Whether narrative, documentary or experimental nature. In addition, video installations, lectures and discussions around the topic of video art are offered. Furthermore, a so-called " VJ Contest " will take place.

The internationally successful short film Parking War was one of the winners of the first festival. In 1997 it was expanded to the international festival, including presented guests from Canada, the USA, Japan and Russia their works. In the competition of the 13th festival ran inter alia, work by Robert Arnold from Boston ( USA), Akiko Nakamura from Tokyo ( Japan), Dusan Gligorov from Moscow (CIS), Claudette Lemay from Montreal (Canada), as well as video makers from Croatia, Italy, Belgium, France and other countries.

A great importance also receives international cooperation with changing foreign festivals that present a selection of video works from its own program since 2000. Guest festivals have included North by Northwest / Liverpool, UK (2000), Ovarvídeo / Ovar, Portugal ( 2001), Eurovídeo / Malaga, Spain ( 2002), Vidéoformes / Clermont- Ferrand, France ( 2003). In 2002, the festival was expanded to a VJ contest.

During the several times a year in the ongoing " theater underground " of the Schauspielhaus Bochum " video lounge " shows the Bochum festival a selection of videos, mostly rounded by an audiovisual performance followed by a party. In addition, there are now also throughout the year video Slams.

The festival is also supported by the Film Foundation North Rhine -Westphalia.
