International Violin Competition Henri Marteau

In the three- year cycle of the International Violin Competition Henri Marteau is aligned in the international music retreat house Marteau. The " Friends of Music Meeting House Marteau eV " founded it in 2002, 2011, he was held for the fourth time.

Sponsorship and cooperation

The district of Upper Franconia took over the sponsorship for this International Violin Competition. With the artistic and overall organizational leadership, the Hofer Symphoniker were entrusted with her ​​then- director Wilfried Anton. In September 2007, the cooperation agreement between the district and Symphony was officially signed.

Objectives and funding of the competition

The contest had and has the objective of promoting young musicians on the way to a solo career and to anchor the name of Henri Marteau in international awareness that in his lifetime the targeted promotion of his students was a particular concern. In addition, the competition, which takes place in Marteau residence "Haus Marteau " in Lichtenberg allows a musical exchange among young soloists from around the world and contributes to cultural understanding amongst people.

A hallmark of the competition is the extensive support program that accompanies the artists afterwards. It contacts with renowned orchestras, scholarships for master courses, numerous concert engagements and port productions are taught with media Bayerischer Rundfunk. Thus, the young artists will be announced after the competition to a wider public. For the winners of the competition, this may mean an important step towards an activity as a solo artist concertante.

Expiration, prizes and awards

Was opened the 4th International Violin Competition, which was under the patronage of the Bavarian Prime Minister Horst Seehofer, on 25 May 2011 with an open air concert in the park of the house Marteau, in which the winners of the last competitions were heard.

Under the artistic and organizational overall management of the Hofer Symphoniker gGmbH contributed from 25 May to 5 June 2011, around 50 young artists before a high-level jury sophisticated pieces of concert music for violin before. As president of the jury acted Gilbert Varga, who now performs as a former chief conductor of the Hofer Symphoniker world with major orchestras.

Prize winners were Tobias Feldmann from Germany, Edouard Mätzener from Switzerland ( 2nd prize) and Ji -Young Lim from Korea (3rd prize ). The prizes and awards for the winners amounted to 10,000 EUR for the 1st place, € 7,500 for the second place and 5,000 Euros for the 3rd place. These prizes were provided by the district of Upper Franconia, the Upper Franconia Foundation, the Friedrich- Baur- Stiftung and the " Friends of Haus Marteau ". To this end, numerous special prices came ( 500 to 1000 Euro ), scholarships and a loan of a copy of the famous Maggini violin Marteau in the form of money.

The first two rounds of the competition took place in the former home of Henri Marteau in Lichtenberg place in the final round, candidates were accompanied in Rosenthal Selb theater of the Hofer Symphoniker. Finally, the award winners presented in a gala concert on June 5, 2011, conducted by Nicholas Milton at Hofer theater.
