Invitation to the Dance is an American dance film from 1956 directed by and starring Gene Kelly. Kelly provides dance represents the story of a circus clown, a Marine and Sindbad the Sailor
Action
The film is an omnibus film of three parts. In all three parts of the dance is at the heart of the action. There is in this film, not a single spoken dialogue, just before each episode are Gene Kelly as presenter an introduction. In the first episode, titled Circus Gene Kelly plays a clown who loves a prima ballerina. The second episode is called Ring Around the Rosy and here Gene Kelly plays a Marine who follows the path of a bracelet that constantly changes its owner. In the third episode he plays Sinbad the sailor who has a magic lamp found. This story is told as a mix of live action and animated film.
Background
The animation part of the episode Sinbad the Sailor was produced by Joseph Barbera and William Hanna. It was selected the music Scheherazade by Rimsky -Korsakov for this part.
