Ioan Lemeni

Ioan Lemeni ( born April 23 1780 in Dezmir, Cluj county, the Grand Duchy of Transylvania, † March 29 1861 in Vienna) was Romanian Greek- Catholic Bishop of Fagaras.

Life

The young nobleman went to primary school in Cluj, graduated from high school in 1801 and entered Blasendorf ibid into the seminary. In 1803 he moved to the seminary in Oradea and was ordained deacon on 17 September 1805 and 1 October of the same year, a priest of celibacy. Lemeni taught philosophy for two years and church history in Blasendorf and 107 was parish priest and dean in Cluj. On October 28, 1819 he was canon in Cluj and on October 18, 1820 canon bubble in the village. In 1829 he was secretary to the bishop Ioan Bob and Director of Church History at the Theological Seminary.

On 2 October 1830 he was Vicar General of the Diocese of Fagaras and voted on August 23, 1832 Bishop of Fagaras. Pope Gregory XVI. confirmed this election on 15 April 1833. He was consecrated on 6 June 1833 in the St. Nicholas Cathedral of Oradea by Samuil Vulcan, the Bishop of Oradea. On 14 July 1833 he was installed in his bishopric Blaj in Fagaras.

Lemeni sat down to ensure that each community should receive a primary school with teachers and visited almost all the parishes of his diocese ( Canonical Visitation ). He left in 1837, the cathedral church of Blaj expand ( nave, two choirs, two towers ), and the bishop's seat restored.

He took part in the Romanian Revolution of 1848. In March 1850, the Gubernator forced him from Transylvania (Governor ), Baron Ludwig von Wohlgemuth to resign and deported him from the country. On April 10, 1850 he went to Vienna.

On March 29, 1861, he died and was buried at the cemetery Simmering.
