Ioan Șișeștean

Ioan Şişeştean ( born June 11, 1936 in Sisesti, Judeţul Maramureş, † April 12, 2011 in Baia Sprie ) was Romanian Greek- Catholic Bishop of Maramureş.

Life

Ioan Şişeştean studied addition to his work at the public library, as a substitute teacher and factory worker theology and received on March 13, 1972 by the Bishop of Maramureş, Ioan Dragomir, secretly ordained priest. In 1990 he became pastor in his native village Sisesti. With the reopening of the Greek - Catholic Theological Institute " Alexandru Rusu " in Baia Mare he became professor of dogmatic theology.

On July 20, 1994, he was elected by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Greek-Catholic Church to the Bishop of Maramureş and confirmed by Pope John Paul II. The episcopal ordination on 11 September of the same year gave him the Archbishop of Fagaras and Alba Iulia, Lucian Mureşan; Were co-consecrators Alexandru Mesian, the then Coadjutor Bishop of Lugoj, and Virgil Bercea, then Auxiliary Bishop of Fagaras and Alba Iulia.
