Ion Ionescu

Ion Gheorghe Ionescu ( born April 5, 1938 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian football player and coach. He played a total of 233 games in the Romanian Divizia A, the German Bundesliga and the Belgian Eerste Klasse. He also took part in the 1964 Olympic Games.

Career as a player

Ion Ionescu began playing football at the age of ten years in his home town of Bucharest in Locomotiva (later Rapid Bucharest). After playing the end of the 1950s in the meantime for the local rivals TAROM and StiinTa, he returned in 1960 back to Rapid, which was one in the 1960s, to the best Romanian clubs. There he was next to the championship in 1967 - the first championship in the club's history - celebrate two Cup wins in 1963 and 1966.

In the summer of 1968, Ionescu was given the opportunity to go to Germany and joined Alemannia Aachen, which played into the Bundesliga. In the two years he played for Alemannia, he played 46 matches, scoring ten goals. In the 1968/69 season, he helped to achieve the greatest success of the Aachen Club history - the runner-up behind FC Bayern Munich. In the following season, however, was followed by the crash and the Alemannia dismounted from the Bundesliga.

After the season Ionescu returned to Romania back and played briefly for Crisul Oradea, but could also not avoid relegation. Ionescu moved abroad again in the Belgian Jupiler League Cercle Brugge. After promotion to the Eerste Klasse he arrived there barely used and finished his career in 1972.

National

Ion Ionescu came in 24 games of the Romanian national team for the use and scoring five goals. His debut was on December 23, 1962 against Morocco. In 1964 he was in the squad for the football tournament of the Olympic Games in Tokyo and came in games against Iran, Mexico and Hungary used, whereby he was able to score a goal against Mexico.

Career as a coach

In the 1980/81 season Ionescu head coach of Gloria Buzău in Divizia A. was in the 1980/81 season Ionescu supervised his old club Rapid Bucharest in Divizia B.
