Ione is a city in Amador County in the Sierra Nevada and is located in the state of California in the United States.

Geography

The city is located about 20 kilometers southeast of Rancho Murieta and 90 kilometers southeast of Sacramento, also 70 km north-east of Stockton and 150 kilometers northeast of San Francisco. The California State Route 124 and California State Route 104 pass through the city.

History

The city's name is Thomas Brown attributed. Previously it was known under the names " Bedbug " and " Freezeout " of prospectors during the time of the California Gold Rush ( California Gold Rush ). At that time, the city was a trading center for various goods. Since gold was found in the vicinity, the town grew rapidly. It has also created a station. Between 1890 and 1894, the Preston School of Industry, better known as " Preston Castle", built and used at times as a rehabilitation school for delinquent youth. Renovations are currently being performed thereon. The famous jazz pianist Dave Brubeck was living in 1998 in Ione, and devoted the Preston Castle, a video entitled "A Castle 's Song", whose proceeds will be used for restoration.

Demography

In July 2009 there was a population of 7694 people, which meant an increase of approximately 8% compared to 2000.
