Iowa Writers' Workshop

The Iowa Writers' Workshop, officially the Program in Creative Writing, is a renowned course in creative writing at the University of Iowa.

The program began in 1936 with the gathering of poets and prose - writers under the direction of Wilbur Schramm. Graduates will receive a Master of Fine Arts.

Graduates of the Iowa Writers' Workshop have won numerous Pulitzer Prizes and National Book Awards and other major literary awards. In 2003, the workshop was the first institution, the National Humanities Medal from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
