Ipomoea quamoclit is a species of the genus of morning glories (Ipomoea ) from the family of wind plants ( Convolvulaceae ). The species is pantropical spread.

Description

Ipomoea quamoclit is an herbaceous, annual climbing plant with slim, smooth stems. The leaf blades are 1-9 cm long, ovate to elliptic in outline, deeply fiederig alternate divided into 9 to 19 to opposite pairs of standing linealischen cloth.

The flowers appear singly or in cymes of two to five flowers. The sepals are glabrous, elliptic to oblong, 4-7 mm long, dull and filled with a 0.25 to 0.75 mm long spike tip. The crown is red or rarely white in color and 2-3 cm long.

The fruits are ovoid, 6-8 mm by measuring capsules. The seeds are dark brown to black in color and covered with dark, irregular patches of short trichomes.

Dissemination

The species is pantropical common and is also cultivated in temperate areas. Original home is probably Mexico, shortly after Christopher Columbus, it was also brought to the Old World.
