Irene Oldfather

Irene Oldfather (born 1954 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Labour Party.

Life

Oldfather visited the Irvine Royal Academy and then began a policy studies at the University of Strathclyde, where she graduated as a master. She was then working for several years as a lecturer at the University of Arizona and worked as a freelance journalist and Politkdozentin at the University of Paisley.

Political career

Between 1990 and 1997 Oldfather advised the Labour MEPs in the European Parliament, Alex Smith. In 1995 she was elected to the Regional Council of North Ayrshire. In the first Scottish Parliament elections in 1999 they first appeared to elections at the national level. With a clear lead over the SNP candidate Michael Russell, she won the direct mandate of their constituency Cunninghame South and moved for the first time in the Scottish Parliament. In the following elections in 2003 and 2007 she defended her mandate. Finally they defeated in the Scottish Parliament elections in 2011, the SNP candidate Margaret Burgess and retired from the Parliament from.
