Nastika

Nastika, the ancient Indian schools that reject the Vedas, are Charvaka, Buddhism and Jainism. All three reject a Creator God, but only Charvaka any form of metaphysics.

Even the non - Vedic school Ajivika refused a creator God.

Astika

Among the Astika, the ancient Indian schools, which recognized the Vedas, some rejected the existence of a supreme God ( Isvara ) from: the Samkhya from 500 AD and the early Mimansa.

Atheism in India the presence

According to the Dentsu Communication Institute Inc, Japan Research Center ( 2006), 6.6 % of Indians without religion.

In Kerala there is an atheistic movement, organized in groupings Indian Rationalist Association and Kerala Yukthivadi Sangham. Yukthivadi the first atheistic- agnostic newspaper was in Malayalam. From Kerala also Sanal Edamaruku, founder and president of the Indian Rationalist Association and Rationalist International is coming.

Somehow, many people believe that India is spiritual and religious. This has promoted the religious interpretation of India, although the Sanskrit literature is the jenige with most atheistic writings of all ancient literatures. Even within the Hindu tradition there were many atheists. The remarkable philosopher of the 14th century, Madhava Acharya wrote his great book called Sarvadarshansamgraha of all schools of thought of the Hindus. The first chapter is " Atheism " - a strong presentation of the argument for atheism and materialism.
