Irving Ravetch

Irving Ravetch Dover ( born November 14, 1920 in Newark, New Jersey; † 19 September 2010 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American screenwriter.

Life

Ravetch attended UCLA, where he studied literature and acted in theater productions; then he participated in a course for young writers of MGM Studios. There he met his future wife and colleague, Harriet Frank, Jr. know who he married in 1946. The following year he wrote his first produced screenplay, which until the late 1980s, about twenty more were to follow for Living in a big way. Especially frequently he worked with Martin Ritt together as a director, he had also proposed for this task in the filming of The Long Hot Summer - Ravetch had fashioned together with William Faulkner 's novel into a screenplay.

For Hud Ravetch and Frank were nominated for an Academy Award and received the New York Film Critics Circle Award and the Writers Guild of America Award. Again they were nominated in 1980 for Norma Rae; also the Golden Globe Award but it remained in the nomination.

In addition to his film work, Ravetch wrote again and again also pieces that have been performed on Broadway.
