Isidoro Ocampo

Isidoro Ocampo ( born June 20, 1910 in Vera Cruz, † February 4, 1983 in Mexico City) was a Mexican artist.

Life

In Mexico City, he trained as a merchant. From 1928 to 1932 he attended evening classes of the Academia de San Carlos. In 1929 he became a member workshop for book art. In the following years he created over 200 etchings, woodcuts and lithographs. On behalf of the Ministry of Education, he taught art at various schools. He illustrated books, newspapers and magazines for the publisher Imprenta y Editorial Cultura. In 1936 he became a member of the Liga de Artistas y Escritores Revolucionarios ( LEAR ). In 1937, he was next to Alberto Beltrán, Angel Bracho, Leopoldo Méndez, Pablo O'Higgins, Raúl Anguiano and other artists founding member of the Taller de Grafica Popular ( Workshop of the People graphic artist, TGP ). He married Nicolasa Bilboa. His first solo exhibition was held in 1941. Other exhibitions followed. 1949 Ocampo was involved in the founding of the Sociedad para el Impulso de las Artes Plásticas. As a representative of the Mexican graphic he took in 1952 at the Venice Biennale.
