İslâm Ansiklopedisi

The Islam Ansiklopedisi (IA ) is a reference book for Islamic Studies in the Turkish language, which was written in the years 1940-1987 at the University of Istanbul.

Genesis

IA was initially as a translation of the first five-volume Encyclopaedia of Islam ( EI1, 1913 - 1938) thought in the Turkish language, as the EI1 was published only in English, French and German. But the EI1 articles have been revised in the course of preparation of the IA, supplemented or corrected in detail, so that the Islam Ansiklopedisi was a 15 - volume work. Some articles from the IA took turn itself into the Encyclopaedia of Islam. New Edition ( EI2, 1960 - 2007) adopted and several articles of the IA of EI2 article referenced in the bibliographies. Between 1988 and 2013, a new Islam Ansiklopedisi was issued, the 44 -volume Türkiye Diyanet Vakfi Islam Ansiklopedisi ( TDVİA or DIA), which is a completely original work.

De - facto standard for Turkish transliterations

The inscription Islam Ansiklopedisi has prevailed in the Oriental as the de facto standard for the transliteration osmanischtürkischer texts. For the transcription ( pronunciation -based transliteration ) the New Redhouse, Charles Steuerwald and Ferit Devellioğlu are considered standard. Another transliteration of Turkish texts is that of the German Oriental Society (DMG ) of 1935. IA transliteration differs only in a few points from her.
