Ismail Serageldin

Ismail Serageldin (Arabic إسماعيل سراج الدين, DMG Ismā ʿ īl Serāǧ ad - Dīn, born 1944 in Giza ) is an Egyptian economist. He is the Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Alexandria and Chairman of the Board of devices connected to the library institutions. Serageldin is Ereprofessor Wageningen University and holder of 33 honorary doctorates, most recently in 2012 by the Odlar Yurdu University in Baku, member of the Institut d' Egypte, the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World ( TWAS ) and the European Academy of Sciences and Arts.

Career

Serageldin received his first academic degree of Bachelor of Science in 1964 at the University of Cairo. After the master's degree at Harvard, he earned his doctorate there in 1972 ( Ph.D.). He worked as a consultant on urban and regional planning, and taught at the Universities of Cairo and Harvard.

After receiving his doctorate Serageldin worked in various positions from 1972 to 1998 at the World Bank, most recently from 1993 to 1998 as vice president for socially and ecologically sustainable development ( Vice - President for Environmentally and Socially Sustainable Development ).

Serageldin 2002 was appointed to the post of director of the new library in Alexandria.
