Master (College)

Master is the traditional name for the head of a college at Oxford and Cambridge. When a female head of the term Mistress is needed. In some colleges (such as King 's College, Cambridge, The Queen 's College, Oxford and Queens ' College in Cambridge ) are used other names, such as Warden, Provost or President ( in the cases mentioned, probably because had an official title as "Master of Kings " is detected as not installed).

The post is traditionally regarded quite high within the college hierarchy and is therefore mostly occupied with deserved researchers or other members of the College who have come to high esteem. The actual power is rather limited ( although this varies from case to case depending on the college statute ); in most cases, it is more of a primus inter pares, even if the master has mostly in the decision-making bodies in the College of ex officio seat.

An important role also falls to him at the closing ceremonies in Cambridge, where he represented the Vice- Chancellor of the University in the majority of cases.
