István Avar

Stefan Auer, Romanian Ştefan Auer, Hungarian István Avar ( born May 28, 1905 in Arad, Austria - Hungary, † 13 October 1977 in Kaposvar, Hungary) was a Romanian and Hungarian football player and coach of old Austrian origin. In order to avoid confusion with his teammate János Auer of AMEF Arad, he was led into the Romanian sports press as Auer II.

Career

Stefan Auer began his football career in the fallen after the First World War, Romania Arad at AMEFA. As a player of this club, he scored in his first international match on April 25, 1926 his first international goal against Bulgaria. Auer moved that same year to Coltea Braşov and met his second and last use for the Romanian national football team on June 19, 1927 twice in a 3-3 draw against Poland. After the defeat in the replay of the final of the Romanian Cup in 1926/27 the new Romanian striker was shortly thereafter brought by the then giants Újpest Budapest to Hungary in the Borsodi Liga. In the years 1930, 1931, 1933 and 1935, the striker was four times Hungarian Champion and was also able to celebrate international success. With Újpest he came into the final of the Mitropapokals 1929 and this was with 5:1 and 2:2 win against Slavia Prague. Stefan Auer was a new record of ten goals scorer of the competition. A year later the striker was victorious with his club in the Coupe des Nations 1930.

The strong performance in Újpest meant that the Hungarian Association appointed the former Romanian national team from 1927 to the Hungarian national team. In this Stefan Auer appeared always as István Avar in appearance. In just 21 international matches for Hungary the striker reach 24 goals, including eight goals in a European Cup Football Teams from 1931 to 1932, brought in the third place Hungary and Stefan Auer another title of a scorer. Furthermore, the striker took part in the World Cup 1934 in Italy, there came to the quarterfinals. 1936 Stefan Auer returned back to Romania and joined Rapid Bucharest, where he served until December 1939 as a player-coach. With Rapid he won the Romanian runner-up in the season 1937/38, and was 1939/40, top scorer in the Divizia A 21 goals. In the same season Rapid reached the final in the Mitropa Cup in 1940, which no longer but was due to the Second World War for the discharge. After the first half of the season 1940/41, Auer finished his engagement at Rapid. He settled in Hungary and continued his career at Kaposvári Rákóczi SC. In 1945, he retired after a spell at Kashav final and became coach at Kaposvári Rákóczi SC.
