Humanoids from the Deep is an American monster film directed by Robert Gordon in the year 1955.

Action

During a routine patrol, the atomic submarine commander Pete Mathews of is suddenly attacked by an unknown object, but can save over the next port. The marine biologist Lesley Joyce and John Carter may investigate the submarine and explore the hull traces of a giant squid. The Navy gives the explanations first no faith. While scientists investigate further, Pete and Lesley come closer. As more ships disappear inexplicably, the suspicion of a giant squid, which was dispelled by nuclear tests from the shallows and contaminated by radiation hardened.

While John is on the search for a missing ship, go Lesley and Pete additional tracks on the west coast of the USA after. Deputy Sheriff Nash shows them on the beach traces that indicate the presence of the Kraken near the coast. John is recalled and the Navy is trying to protect the Pacific coast. However, the octopus can break the lock and begins parts of the city of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge to destroy. The only possibility is a special torpedo that could be fired by the submarine by Pete.

Background

  • As a producer Charles H. Schneer panic in New York saw it, he wanted to with Ray Harryhausen make a similar monster movie for Columbia. It was the beginning of a long collaboration between Harryhausen and Schneer Columbia.
  • For cost reasons, the giant squid had only six arms, which is not noticed because the animal was mostly under water. For the Golden Gate Bridge you did not receive permission to film. The exterior shots had to be secretly filmed.
  • The film never came to German cinemas. It was first shown in 1995 on Super RTL. Originally filmed in black and white stripe was colored for the DVD release with modern means.
