Italian bee ( A. m. Ligustica )

The Italian bee ( Apis mellifera ligustica, also: Italian bee ) is a naturally occurring race ( subspecies ) of the Western honey bee ( Apis mellifera). From beekeepers it is simply called Ligustica.

It is native to the Italian peninsula. Their color tends always to yellow with a variation between lemon yellow and brown leather. As originally native bee there it has excellent properties with respect to honey collection diligence and peacefulness. It is considered the best collector of flowers honey. The beekeeper also recognized in other parts of the world. Meanwhile, this breed is the world's most widely held honeybee. Even in Scandinavia and Alaska is successfully geimkert with her. In Germany they could never prevail, but no efforts were, unlike the Carniolan bee from Carinthia, started to read it out to the German situation.
