Iwan Müller

Iwan Müller ( born December 3, 1786 in Tallinn, † February 4, 1854 in Bückeberg ) was a German clarinettist, composer and instrument maker, the great merit earned by the development of his instrument.

Life

Müller (now Tallinn) born to German parents in Reval and received in 1805 a job as a chamber musician in St. Petersburg. In 1809 he went to Paris, where he built a tool factory, the first time a novel " clarinet omnitonique " brought to market in 1812 with 13 airtight flaps. While the old flaps had a simple tilt mechanism and a felt pad, so they never were reliable, Müller developed the spoon flap with leather upholstery and sank the holes with a raised conical ring, the Zwirl, as are common today. He also secured the first sheet with an adjustable center ring. Due to a negative opinion of the Paris Conservatoire miller factory went bankrupt, but continued his innovation within a few years by.

1820 Müller left Paris again to go to Russia. Three years later, he turned to Germany and took first in Kassel and in 1825 in Berlin a job. In 1826 he traveled to Switzerland, in the spring of 1828, he is detectable in Vienna and later in London, and after the July Revolution of 1830 in Paris again. Most recently, he was a court musician of Prince Georg Wilhelm of Schaumburg -Lippe in Bückeberg.
