Jack Browne, Baron Craigton

Jack Nixon Browne, Baron Craigton CBE, PC ( born September 3, No 1904; † July 28, 1993 ) was a Scottish Conservative politician of the Unionist Party.

Youth

He was the son of Edwin Gilbert Izod and took the last name Browne 1920, when his family thought that the unusual surname is disadvantageous. He went to Cheltenham College and served during World War II as an Acting Group Captain in Balloon Command of the Royal Air Force. He got darür 1944 CBE medal.

Political career

He ran in 1945 unsuccessfully for the seat in the embossed by the working class constituency Glasgow Govan, but he was in 1950 elected to the House of Commons and held this seat until 1955. He was then in 1955 in the constituency of Glasgow Craigton and held this seat until September 1959, was appointed at a time when in the House of Lords.

He was from 1952 to April 1955 Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Scotland when he was Parliamentary Under- Secretary of State for Scotland. In November 1959, he was as Baron Craigton, of Renfield in the County of the City of Glasgow, a life peer. In 1961 he was Privy Counsellor. In October 1959 he became Minister of State for Scotland, and retained this position until October 1964.

Later he had several important functions in business, including Chairman of United Biscuits Holdings, and supported several conservation organizations including the World Wildlife Fund.
