Jack Costanzo

Jack Costanzo ( * September 24, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American percussionist. He played with the Stan Kenton band, Nat King Cole, Peggy Lee, Betty Grable, Harry James, Judy Garland, Jane Powell, Ray Anthony, Martin & Lewis, Frances Faye, Dinah Shore, Xavier Cugat, Frank Sinatra, Eddie Fisher, Marlon Brando and later with his own band. After his main instrument, which he introduced in the 1950s in jazz, he was known as "Mr. Bongo ". He has appeared in various films, including " Visitor to a Small Planet " and " The Delicate Delinquent " (with Jerry Lewis), Danny Kaye's " Man from the Diners Club " Red Skelton " Stool Pigeon Number 1" and " Harem Scarum " with Elvis Presley. He has taught numerous Hollywood stars, including Gary Cooper.

He began as a dance teacher with his wife and was inspired to Bongo playing from a Puerto Rican band gig.
