Jack Garland (Canadian politician)

John "Jack" Richard Garland PC ( born January 1, 1918 in Smiths Falls, Ontario, † March 14, 1964 ) was a Canadian journalist, business managers, entrepreneurs and politicians of the Liberal Party of Canada, the number of years a Member of the House of Commons and Minister for some time had.

Life

Garland, who was a journalist by profession, business manager and entrepreneur, began his political career in local politics and worked 1947-1949 as Deputy ( Alderman ) of North Bay. He was first elected at the general election of 27 June 1949 as the candidate of the Liberal Party as a delegate in the House of Commons and represented in this up to his death on March 14, 1964 more than 14 years the electoral district of Nipissing.

On April 22, 1963 Prime Minister Lester Pearson appointed him minister of national income in the 19th Canadian Cabinet, where he remained until his death on 14 March 1964.

He was named the Jack Garland Airport in North Bay in honor.
