Jack Orlando

Jack Orlando is the hero of the same 2D point- and-click adventures of the Polish development company Toontraxx, produced by Zuxxez Entertainment, and is distributed by TopWare Interactive or in the director's cut version of JoWood Productions.

The Story

The unsuccessful and alcohol-dependent private investigator Jack Orlando wakes up after a night next to a corpse and was arrested shortly thereafter. However, it may the competent police inspector persuaded to grant him 48 hours to prove his innocence. From here, the player assumes the role of Jack.

The ambience

Jack Orlando plays in a major American city of the 1930s. Run-down side streets and vibrant nightlife of the nobler society, dominate the picture. Musical accompaniment is playing with jazz music, which was produced by Harold Faltermeyer. The main actor was set to music by the German dubbing voice of Don Johnson.

Implementation

Jack Orlando is a 2D adventure in comic style, which was drawn in the airbrush method. The backgrounds and characters are detailed and the mood of the 30s was well captured. However, the relatively poor synchronization and especially the puzzle design was criticized by many players, which is partially illogical and so-called "Dead Ends" can produce in the game. Furthermore, often appear important items in the game only on, after you've performed certain actions, which forces you already visited each site to browse repeated. The sound quality of the synchronization constitutes a major minus point is:

  • Language often disappears behind the music
  • Voice volume is not constant,
  • Language appears mostly in excessive reverberation rooms that do not match the location,
  • Some parts of speech are times with times without Hall, in the same scene.

Director's Cut

Published in 2001, "Director's Cut" offers additional places and puzzles. In addition, you can choose between the levels of difficulty "Normal" and "light " here, which in the easy level then disappear some puzzles and / or the action is different.

This represents the most widespread version of the game, which probably is also due to the better marketing by JoWood. Nevertheless, the title itself is relatively unknown.

Total units were sold in Germany than 68,000.
