Jack Purcell

John Edward "Jack" Purcell ( born December 24, 1903 in Guelph, † June 10, 1991 in Toronto ) was a Canadian badminton player.

Career

Jack Purcell won from 1927 to 1931 five individual titles in Ontario in series and four doubles titles. 1919 and 1930 he became champions in the men's singles at the Canadian championships. After they had taken from him his amateur status, he was from 1932 to 1945 continuous professional world champion in badminton. 1935 Purcell created a sports shoe, which is still produced today. In 1955 he was inducted into Canada 's Sports Hall of Fame, 1973 in the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame.
