Jacques-Davy Duperron

Jacques- Davy Duperron (* November 25, 1556 in Saint- Lô, † May 5, 1618 in Paris) was a French cardinal, poet and diplomat.

Life

He was the son of a Reformed pastor, who had to flee in the Canton of Bern because of his faith from Normandy. After theological and humanistic studies, he returned to his father's home and came from there in 1576 at the court of Henry III. , Where he in 1577 or 1578 converted to Roman Catholicism. In 1591 he became bishop of Evreux, was subsequently ordained as a priest in 1593 and in 1606 Archbishop of Sens, after he had been made ​​a cardinal in 1604.

Duperron exerted a strong influence on Henry IV.
