Jacques Mallet-du-Pan

Jacques Mallet du Pan ( born November 5, 1749 Céligny, † May 10 1800 in Richmond ) was a native of Switzerland, French royalist publicist, journalist and writer. He is considered a pioneer of political journalism.

Life

Jacques Mallet du Pan, son of a Protestant minister, was for a time in Kassel professor of French literature. But he soon turned to London, Geneva and Paris, where he was working as a journalist. In 1788 he took over the editorship of the political part of the Mercure de France. During the Revolution his paper represented a per - royale, constitutional attitude.
