Jade University of Applied Sciences

The Jade College is a state college in the northwestern Lower Saxony with study sites in Wilhelmshaven, Oldenburg and Elsfleth. The university offers 40 degree programs in six departments and has approximately 6,700 enrolled students and 500 faculty and staff. The Jade University sees itself as a modern university with a focus on maritime engineering and economics degree programs.

History
The Jade University was established on 1 September 2009. It emerged from the former University of Applied Sciences Oldenburg / Ostfriesland / Wilhelmshaven.
The founding of the University on the recommendation of the Structural Commission " Future development of the University of Applied Sciences Oldenburg / Ostfriesland / Wilhelmshaven ," the and the Government of Lower Saxony a defusion of the merged only in 2000 FH Oldenburg / Ostfriesland / Wilhelmshaven in the new universities FH Wilhelmshaven / Oldenburg / Elsfleth University of Applied Sciences Emden / Leer suggested.
In October 2009 the new University of the name " Jade Hochschule " is selected. The term jade is derived from the River Jade and is seen as a unifying element of the three sites of the university. On the other hand, the term jade is " catchy, international audience, easily speak in several languages and competitive" and had " a high recognition value."
All three study sites of university - Wilhelmshaven, Oldenburg and Elsfleth - have a long tradition in their respective training priorities. For instance, nautical studies in Elsfleth back to the year 1832. Today the Department is the largest nautical training facility in Germany. In Oldenburg engineers are trained since 1877. In Wilhelmshaven in 1947 was the origin of Academy of the business department.
Family Friendly University
In December 2011, the Jade University has been awarded the certificate " audit family -friendly university " excellent. The certificate is awarded by the berufundfamilie gGmbH and is a key offering to all public institutions to improve the reconciliation of work / study and family.
