Band History

The origins of Jadis back to the year 1980. Guitarist and singer Gary Chandler was around 13, 14 and students in Southampton. According to his own statements, he sang even then sometimes charge, where it is currently offered, even if it was in a ever so dodgy scales. His own band featured changing line- ups ( including the later IQ guitarist Mike Holmes and the later Jadis returners Nick May ) and changing names ( Chandler remembers Icarus and Samuran Grass). The game of the Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett impressed Chandler and changed his own in a progressive direction. He searched in the winter 1981/1982 new contributors with the same taste and found them in drummer Mark Ridout and bassist Trevor Dawkins. A little later was joined by guitarist / bassist Les Marshall. Looking for a short new name Ridout finally struck Jadis before.

Ridout and Marshall changed in 1985 and 1986 to the neighboring band IQ, Jadis, however, were on friendly terms, as reflected in the fact that they allowed the band in 1987, their Nomzamo tour to gather as the opening act of IQ their first experiences on stage. Steve Rothery, guitarist for Marillion, then produced their first professional demo recording that was 1989 pressed on vinyl, which can be regarded as the first album, so it achieves high collector prices. The line-up consisted at that time from Chandler, Dawkins, Pete Salmon ( keyb ) and Paul Alwin (dr ), the Mark Law replaced in July 1988. In the same year Jadis Marillion Clutching at Straws accompanied on the tour. In 1989 it was time for the first headlining gig at the Marquee Club in the music metropolis of London, where the friends of IQ were moved and which one was followed two years later. However, the band broke up in June 1989 and had to be rebuilt. IQ founding member Martin Orford turned in March 1990 as a keyboard player available. In addition, the drummer Steve Christey hired by Jadis. The former bassist Nick May was resumed, but only up to him in October 1991, John Jowitt replaced, which was soon sought after by IQ and then as Orford led a parallel membership. Thus, the cast for the regular LP premiere was together.

In 1992, their first studio album More Than Meets The Eye, which next year the EP Once Upon A Time followed. The second album Across The Water was completed in 1994 and was sold in the first days of 3000 times. The Classic Rock Society (UK) voted the band the Best and the album the best of the year. After an extensive European tour in 1996, which brought the band include Germany, Spain and Poland, it came to amicable separation with Steve Christey and Martin Orford. They were replaced by keyboardist Mike Torr and the bassist Steve Hunt. In this new occupation came 1997 on the release of their third studio album Sommersault and the first live album As Daylight Fades. In time for the recordings to Understand returned 2000 Steve Christey and Martin Orford back in the band, which meant the end for Mike Torr and Steve Hunt. After numerous tours in Mexico, Europe, etc., began in 2002 the productions Fanatic. In 2003, the album was released along with the first DVD called View From Above.
