Jaishankar Menon

Jaishankar Moothedath Menon ( born August 9, 1956 in Kerala ) is an Indian computer scientist who developed the RAID technology for data storage especially in backup systems at IBM.

Menon studied at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in Electrical Engineering with a bachelor 's degree in 1977 and received his doctorate at Ohio State University. He is with IBM in San Jose, where he developed the RAID technology since 1982.

He is since 2001, IBM Fellow and a Fellow of the IEEE, the W. Wallace McDowell Award he received in 2002. In 2006 he received the IEEE Reynold B. Johnson Information Storage Systems Award. He also received the title of IBM Master Inventor and is a member of the IBM Academy of Technology.
