Jakob Fugger the Elder

Jakob Fugger (* 1398 in Augsburg, † March 23, 1469 in Augsburg, later called Jacob Fugger the Elder) was a master weaver, alderman and merchant. As such, he is the progenitor of the family of the Fugger of the lily. He was the father of Jacob Fugger the Rich.

His father was Hans Fugger, who had come in 1367 as Landweber from digging in the free city of Augsburg. Hans Fugger could leave by some hard work, good luck and especially two very advantageous marriages, his family at his death in 1408 a not inconsiderable fortune.
