Jakob Jud

Jakob Jud ( born January 12, 1882 in Wängi in Canton Thurgau, † June 15, 1952 in Seelisberg in Canton Uri) was a Swiss linguist.

Life and scientific work

After studying at the University of Zurich and at the universities of Paris and Florence Jud was 1922-1950 Professor of Romance Linguistics at the University of Zurich. In the Romance languages ​​its priorities in dialectology and on the Romanche and the continuation of the onomasiology were.

Jud designed together with Karl Jaberg the monumental language and subject Atlas of Italy and southern Switzerland: AIS (8 vols, 1928-1940, explorers: Paul Scheuer Meier, Gerhard Rohlfs, Max Leopold Wagner).
