Jakob van der Schley

Jacob van der Schley, also from the Schley ( born July 26, 1715 in Amsterdam, † February 12, 1779 ) was a Dutch draftsman and engraver.

Life

Little is known about the career of the engraver Jacob van der Schley. From the Inside Cover of a book collection of the stitches from the Seven Years' War of 1760 shows that he was a " highly respected student of the famous Picart le Romain ". The maps in the book, translated Topographic maps of the camp of the campaign of 1757, in Westphalia, represent some of the oldest plans in various places, such as the Brede Beck.

Schley was a student Picart since the age of 12. After the death of his teacher, he completed his commenced copper plates. His field of specialization, while being worked his younger brother Philip van helped the Schley (1724-1817), were predominantly book titles and vignettes.
