Jákup Nolsøe Mikkelsen ( born August 14, 1970 in Klaksvík, Faroe Islands ) is Faroese football goalkeeper ÍF Fuglafjørður and since 1995 by the national team.

Association

Mikkelsen began his career at KÍ Klaksvík as a goalkeeper, but in his youth, he was active as a striker. In 1987 he stood for the first time in the first team squad, his first competitive game, he completed the following year, in the second round of the cup against SÍ Sørvágur that away could be won with 4:3. A month later, on the sixth matchday of the first Deild the first league game against ÍF Fuglafjørður, which was lost 2:4. With two exceptions, Mikkelsen was also on all remaining league games in goal. In 1990 he graduated from the first time all league games. This season also the first-time Cup win was by a 6-1 in the final against GÍ Gøta. The subsequent championship in 1991 also was quite successful and KÍ Klaksvík celebrated their first league title in 19 years. In 1992 he succeeded on the eleventh Gameday penalty spot against GÍ Gøta his first of a total of five goals in the first Faroese league. After another top places in the league was in 1994 in the Cup with a 2-1 win against B71 Sandur the next title to be won.

In summer 1994, he moved into the Super League to Herfølge BK. Due to a special agreement had been allowed him to help out in the semi-final matches of the Cup in 1995 and 1996 respectively at KÍ Klaksvík. Despite the fact that in this case a draw and a victory could be achieved in the finals was due to the first leg results missed each. In the fifth year in Herfølge BK Mikkelsen was in season 1999/2000 Danish title. In the former team he played with, among others Steven Lustü, Jesper Falck, John Jensen and Kenneth Jensen. However, the following year was disappointing and ended with the descent of the club in the second division. The next stops were for Molde FK in the Tippeligaen and Partick Thistle who then played in the Scottish Premier League. In both clubs he came only to a few games each.

Returned to 2004 Mikkelsen KÍ Klaksvík, 2005 saw the change to B36 Tórshavn. In that year he was elected as the first ever goalkeeper to Faroese football player of the year. He also received the award for the best goalkeeper. At that time he was with his club on the side of Fróði Benjaminsen, Allan Mørkøre, Mikkjal K. Thomassen and Pól Thorsteinsson Faroese champions. In 12 out of 27 games he was able to keep the door clean and conceded a total of just 17 goals conceded. His save from Thierry Henry were honored in the World Cup qualifiers. The following year, also the Faroese Cup with a 2-1 win over his old club KÍ Klaksvík and the Atlantic Cup on penalties against the Icelandic champions FH Hafnarfjörður could be won. 2007 succeeded in winning the Faroese Supercup against the reigning champions HB Tórshavn Faroese also on penalties. 2008 Mikkelsen returned again back to KÍ Klaksvík and served 2009 times as player-coach, but could not prevent the initial descent of the club in the second division. Nevertheless, he won in both years for KÍ once again the award for Goalkeeper of the Year. Since 2010 he plays for ÍF Fuglafjørður in the Premier League and 2012 was elected for the fourth time Goalkeeper of the Year.

National

Mikkelsen was the successor to Jens Martin Knudsen for the goalkeeper position in the national team. He made his debut on July 2, 1995 to Iceland. The friendly match in Neskaupstaður was lost with 0:2. In the first 48 internationals he conceded 107 goals (as of June 1, 2007 ). The national team career seemed really completed already for 2009, due to the injury of his successor Gunnar Nielsen stood Mikkelsen 2010, however, again in two international matches between the posts. In 2011, Mikkelsen was in the squad due to the renewed injury Nielsen. With its use on August 15, 2012 against Iceland and an age of 42 years and one day Mikkelsen became the oldest goalkeeper, which was used in a procedure recognized by the FIFA international match. This was also the last of his 73 caps.

Personal

Mikkelsen has been mainly working as a teacher. Since the spring of 2013 he shared playing with his son, born in 1995 Poul N. Mikkelsen in the first team of ÍF Fuglafjørður.
