James B. Macelwane Medal

The James B. Macelwane Medal is a Geoscience Award for young researchers, which is awarded by the American Geophysical Union ( AGU).

Up to three of these medals are awarded annually in the normal case, in exceptional cases up to five. Will be honored with the award of exceptional young scientists for significant research contributions to the field of geophysics. The maximum age at the time of the award may not exceed 36.

The Young Investigator Award in 1961 and a year later was awarded Introduced for the first time, only since 1986, but it got its present name. The medal is named after James Bernard Macelwane (1883-1956), the 13th President of the AGU 1953 to 1956, which is so appreciated not only for his research but also for his commitment to teaching.
