James Curnow

James Edward ( Jim) Curnow ( born April 17, 1943 in Port Huron, Michigan) is an American composer and music educator.

He completed his studies at Wayne State University in Detroit and at Michigan State University in East Lansing, among others, in Jere Hutchinson, F. Maxwell Wood, James Gibb and Irwin Fischer composition, Paul Harder, Harry Leonard Falcone Euphonium and Begian conducting.

After graduating, he taught at various schools and colleges in all areas of instrumental music. In 1981 he became a professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign. As a lecturer for workshops, special seminars and similar events, he toured the United States of America, Canada, Australia, Japan and Europe.

For his compositions, he has received numerous prizes and awards.
