James De La Montanya

James De La Montanya ( born March 20, 1798 in New York City; † April 29, 1849 ) was an American politician. Between 1839 and 1841 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

James De La Montanya was born in the late 18th century in New York City and grew up there. He then lived in Haverstraw and was in the years 1832 and 1833 Town Supervisor there. In addition, he sat in 1833 in the New York State Assembly. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1838, he was in the second electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Abraham Vanderveer on March 4, 1839. Since he resigned in 1840 to run again, he retired after the March 3, 1841 out of the Congress. He died about a year after the end of the Mexican - American War on April 29, 1849 in New York City and was buried in the cemetery of the Barnes family in Stony Point.
