James Hamilton, 2nd Duke of Abercorn

James Hamilton, 2nd Duke of Abercorn KG ( born August 24, 1838 in Brighton, † January 3, 1913 in London ), was a Scottish nobleman and British politician.

Life

James Hamilton was a son of James Hamilton, 1st Duke of Abercorn and his wife Louisa Jane Russell. He succeeded his father as Duke of Abercorn in 1885.

He was Member of Parliament for County Donegal from 1860 to 1880 and from 1866 to 1885, Lord Chamberlain of the Prince of Wales. Since 1885 he was Lord Lieutenant of County Donegal, a year later, Grand Master of Masons in Ireland. In 1901, he officially announced the accession of Edward VII as envoy extraordinary to the courts of Berlin, Dresden, Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo. James Hamilton was the great great grandfather of Diana, Princess of Wales.

The Duke married in 1869 Mary Anna ( 1848-1929 ), daughter of Richard Curzon - Howe, 1st Earl Howe, with whom he had the following children:
