Duke of Abercorn

Duke of Abercorn ( Duke of Abercorn ) is a British hereditary title of nobility, which is led by the Irish branch line of the Scottish Hamilton family. The name refers to the Scottish town Abercorn, West Lothian.

The title was originally in 1603 as Lord of Abercorn for the son of Lord Paisley, in turn, was a younger son of the 2nd Earl of Arran, created and was part of the Peerage of Scotland. Already in 1606 was followed by a survey of the Earl of Abercorn. 1790 was followed by another survey of Marquess of Abercorn, now in the Peerage of Great Britain, for the merits of the 9th Earl as a member of the House of Commons. 1868 then became the 2nd Marquess, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, was appointed Duke of Abercorn in the Peerage of Ireland.

The family seat is Baronscourt at Newtownstewart Omagh and Strabane between in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland.
