James Hamilton, 4th Duke of Abercorn

James Hamilton, 4th Duke of Abercorn (* February 29, 1904 in London, † June 4, 1979 ) was a British nobleman and politician.

Life

James Hamilton was a son of James Hamilton, 3rd Duke of Abercorn and his wife Rosalind Bingham. At his birth, he was awarded the Höflichkeitsritel a Viscount Strabane and at the age of 9 years to a Marquess of Hamilton. He succeeded his father as Duke of Abercorn in 1953.

James Hamilton was educated at Eton and was County Councillor since 1946 and High Sheriff, in 1950 Lord Lieutenant of County Tyrone.

Progeny

He was since 1928 married to Catherine ( 1905-1990 ), daughter of Henry William Crichton Viscount Crichton, with whom he had the following children:

  • Moyra Kathleen ( b. 1930 ), married 1966 Peter Colin Drummond Campbell
  • James ( b. 1934 ), 5th Duke of Abercorn
  • Claude Anthony ( b. 1939 ), married in 1982 Catherine Janet Faulkner
