James Hannen, Baron Hannen

James Hannen, Baron Hannen, of Burdock in the County of Sussex PC FRS (* 1821 in Peckham, † March 29, 1894 ) was a British lawyer who most recently as Lord of Appeal in Ordinary, due to the Appellate Jurisdiction Act 1876 as a Life Peer and member of the House of Lords was.

Life

After visiting the St Paul 's School graduated Hannen, son of a London merchant, to study law at the Ruprecht -Karls- University of Heidelberg and received after the end of 1848 his legal approval to the Chamber of Lawyers ( Inns of Court ) of the Middle Temple. He then began working as a barrister in 1863 and worked as a legal adviser to the Treasury (Treasury).

In 1868, he joined the judicial service and served until 1872 as a judge at the former Civil Court of England ( Court of Queen's Bench ). At the same time he was defeated in 1868 Knight Bachelor and led since then the additional name "Sir". In addition, in 1868 he was Serjeant -at -law. His younger brother Nicholas John Hannen was also a lawyer and, among others, 1891-1900 President of the British Supreme Court for China and Japan (British Supreme Court for China and Japan) and at the same time from 1891 to 1897 Head of the Consulate General in Shanghai.
