James IV of Majorca

James IV of Majorca ( Catalan: Jaume IV de Mallorca; * August 24, 1336; † February 1375 in Soria ) was a titular king of Mallorca from the House of Barcelona.

He was the only son of King James III. Mallorca and his wife Constance of Aragon, a daughter of King Alfonso IV of Aragon. Jacob's father was expelled in 1344 by his Aragonese cousins ​​of Majorca, which united the kingdom with the crown of Aragon. In the Battle of Llucmajor 1349 the father tried to reconquer the kingdom, but fell there and Jacob came with his mother and sister in the captivity of Aragón, which he spent first in Jativa and then in Barcelona. He should have been treated under degrading conditions, which could brutalize him in character. 1362 he managed to escape and married the mediation of Pope Urban V., the Neapolitan Queen Joanna I of Anjou. With his wife and their relationship but he was mainly in the dispute and led a restless life mercenaries. In the Castilian War of Succession in 1367 he fought in the Battle of Nájera on the side of the Black Prince against Bertrand du Guesclin. Soon after, he was but captured by Henry of Trastamara taken who delivered him to Du Guesclin. By 1370 Jacob was held by this trapped in Montpellier. Along with Duke Louis I of Anjou in 1374, he led a mercenary army against Aragon but was defeated in Sant Cugat del Vallès. A little later, Jacob died in exile in Castilian Soria where he was also buried in the church of San Francisco.

As he had no children with his wife went his claims to Mallorca on his sister Isabella on, who was married to the Marquis of Montferrat. Isabella sold her rights in 1378 continued to Duke Louis I of Anjou, who was later adopted by Jacob's widow.
