James Kasting

James F. Kasting ( born January 2, 1953) is a geoscientist at Pennsylvania State University. Kasting studied at Harvard University and the University of Michigan, and received his doctorate in 1979 in the field of atmospheric science.

Kasting has been particularly concerned with the history of the Earth and its atmosphere, and this is also used for the consideration of the probability of life in other solar systems. Published his 1993 study for the particular habitable zone is considered a milestone in the field of research.

Kasting is also a member of various scientific societies, such as the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Geochemical Society and was on several occasions working for NASA.

Kasting is still a professor of geosciences at Penn State University. He is married and has three children.
