James Langstaff (bishop)

James Henry Langstaff (* June 27, 1956 ) is a British Anglican theologian. He is since 2010 Bishop of Rochester Church of England.

Langstaff studied at St Catherine's College, University of Oxford Philosophy, Politics and Economics. In 1981 he was ordained a deacon; In 1982 the priest. He began his ecclesiastical career from 1981 to 1986 as a vicar ( Curate ) in Farnborough ( Hampshire) in the Diocese of Guildford. In 1986, he took a pastorate ( as " Priest- in-Charge " ) in Duddeston with jurisdiction over the church in Nechells, in the Diocese of Birmingham. In 1987 he was parish priest there ( " Vicar "). From 1995 to 1996 he was Dean of the country ( Rural Dean ) of Birmingham City. From 1996 to 2000 he was chaplain (Domestic Chaplain ) of the Bishop of Birmingham, Mark Santer. From 2000 to 2004 he was pastor ( " Rector " ) at the Holy Trinity Church of Sutton Coldfield in the Diocese of Birmingham. From 2002 to 2004 he was Dean District ( Area Dean ) of Sutton Coldfield.

On 26 June 2004, he received episcopal consecration as Bishop of Lynn and was the suffragan bishop in the Diocese of Norwich in the Church of England. On 22 June 2010 it was announced that Langstaff would take over from Michael Nazir - Ali, Bishop of Rochester. On 11 December 2010 he was employed in this office.

Langstaff heard in his capacity as Bishop of Rochester since February 2014 as a clergyman Lord the House of Lords on.

Langstaff is married and has two children, Alasdair and Helen.
