James Oglethorpe

James Edward Oglethorpe (* December 22, 1696 in London, † June 30, 1785 in Cranham, England) was a British general and philanthropist. He founded the colony of Georgia, which later became the present-day U.S. state of Georgia was born. From 1732 to 1743 he served as governor of the colony. According to him, named the Oglethorpe County in Georgia and Oglethorpe University in Atlanta.
