James Scott, Earl of Dalkeith

James Scott, Earl of Dalkeith KT (* May 23, 1674, † March 14, 1705 in London) was a Scottish soldier.

James Scott was a son of James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth, and his wife Anne Scott, 1st Duchess of Buccleuch. He led the courtesy title Earl of Dalkeith and Earl of Doncaster, but still remained civil.

The Earl fought in 1692 during the Palatinate War of Succession in Flanders and in 1704 Knight of the Thistle Order. Scott was since 1694 married to Henrietta, daughter of Laurence Hyde, 1st Earl of Rochester.

He died at age 30 of a stroke. Therefore heir to his mother as Duke of Buccleuch was his only son Francis Scott, 2nd Duke of Buccleuch.
