James W. Husted (Representative)

James William Husted ( born March 16, 1870 in Peekskill, New York, † January 2, 1925 in New York City ) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1915 and 1923 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

James William Husted was born about five years after the end of the civil war in Westchester County. He attended private schools, the Peekskill Military Academy and the Cutler 's School in New York City. In 1888, he graduated from Phillips Academy in Andover (Massachusetts ), 1892 at Yale University and in 1894 at New York Law School. After receiving his license to practice law in 1894, he began practicing in Peekskill. Between 1895 and 1897 he sat in the New York State Assembly. He moved in 1897 to White Plains, where he continued to practice as a lawyer. In 1902 he returned to Peekskill. He sat there, his activities as a lawyer. Then he held in 1903 and 1904, the post of president in the Village of Peekskill. Between 1909 and 1920 he was a member and treasurer of the Board of Park Commissioners.

Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party. In 1912 he ran unsuccessfully for the 63rd Congress. In the congressional elections of 1914 for the 64th Congress Husted was in the 25th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Benjamin I. Taylor on March 4, 1915. He was re-elected three times in a row. Since he gave up a re-election bid in 1922, he retired after March 3, 1923 from the Congress.

After his time he took Congress in Peekskill his work as a lawyer on. He also went after banking transactions and was president of the Peekskill bank. He died on January 2, 1925 in New York City. His body was cremated and the ashes then buried in the Hillside Cemetery in Peekskill.
