James Wendell

James Isaac Wendell ( born September 3, 1890 in Schenectady, New York, † November 22, 1958 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) was an American track and field athlete. He was 1.83 m tall and 79 kg.

He won three IC4A Championships:

At the Summer Olympics in Stockholm in 1912 he won in 15.2 seconds, the silver medal in the 110- meter hurdles behind Fred Kelly ( gold in 15.1 seconds) and ahead of Martin Hawkins ( bronze in 15.3 seconds). At the race, only Americans were to the British Kenneth Powell, who was last involved.

After the end of his career he became a teacher for sports and English at the Hill School in Pottstown. From 1928 to 1952 he was director of this school.

James Wendell was a graduate of Wesleyan University. In 2008, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame this university.
